Unreliable methods of backing up

  • Tapes
  • Hard drives
  • CDs
  • USBs

There are multiple risks associated with traditional methods of backup. These methods rely on the effective operation of the hardware, which is subject to degradation over time and at risk of disaster such as fire, flood, theft or loss.

What are the risks?

A study conducted by the Home Office Computing Magazine revealed that 77% of businesses who tested their tape backups found failures. Furthermore, should data loss actually occur, it was reported by the Strategic Research Institute that even a very simple drive replacement can cost over £4,800, with no guarantee of success.

What is the Remote Data Backup service?

PCM offers a service which provides data security and backup peace of mind. Remote Data Backup is a customised PCM software application which is installed onto a server and/or individual computers and laptops. This application sends selected data to PCM's secure servers automatically every day (or however frequently clients require).

Our staff are on hand to ensure the transition happens successfully without failure and that you receive successful status report emails each time data has been backed up. Consequently, any errors can be rectified promptly, ensuring that full data storage is preserved. The backing up of data, however large, is fast and efficient.

Complete Data Security

Remote Data Backup is completely secure. The software application encrypts data before it leaves the client business network and it remains in this encoded format whilst held on PCM servers. As an additional security measure, all data is replicated to multiple PCM servers at remote locations.

What happens in the event of data loss?

Should a business operating the Remote Data Backup service suffer data loss, the data can be accessed in three ways. Firstly, through a password protected website, where all files can be accessed and restored. Secondly, PCM can email individual files or, in the case of large data loss, PCM can courier hard copies to you directly. In all instances, remote recovery provides a prompt, practical and cost-effective retrieval method.

Why choose PCM?

Recent independent research commissioned by the British Insurance Brokers' Association (BIBA) has found that millions of SMEs across the UK are failing to properly protect themselves in the event of disaster. Government figures suggest that nearly 1 in 5 businesses suffer a major IT related disruption every year. Through direct experience, PCM are acutely aware of the risks that lack of proper data protection pose to businesses.

We provide the software and service at a competitive price and are on-hand to provide assistance throughout. In the event of data loss, our specialists are able to provide assurance and assistance.

Our team will ensure that your organisation suffers minimal downtime in the event of data loss.

Remote Data Backup is valued highly by our customers

Had we not been using the PCM remote back up, the incident that we experienced would have been an unmitigated disaster and I am not certain that my business would have recovered. I believe the cost would have run to a minimum of £10,000 to recreate the data loss in our proprietary software system. The contingent loss of business and subsequent revenue does not bear thinking about.

"PCM are extremely easy to 'do business with'; they are all that you would expect in your own business - professional, customer focused staff, delivering a great service."
